Gwenda Branjerdporn Artist
Gwenda lives in Brisbane and graduated from Griffith University with a BFA. She started art after a difficult and long illness which claimed her career. She started with a short weekly art programme run by TAFE as an enrichment course for two years. This led her to go to TAFE to study an art course for a year, travelling to Ipswich and home by train and bus. Because of this initial study, she applied to the Queensland College of Art at Morningside to be accepted into their art programme as a mature aged student. After a year or two, the Griffith University at South Bank was built, and the students all transferred into the brand new building at South Bank to finish their degree in Fine Art.
She was told by the previous Director of the Art Gallery in Brisbane that she had a natural talent with colour combination. Most students have to learn this, but Gwenda had it naturally as her gift.
You will notice in this body of work that Gwenda enjoys the use of colour, some of the art works are bold in their colour of the Australian outback, especially along the train line of ‘The Ghan’.
Previously she taught as a Secondary School teacher, with a degree from QUT. She has a Graduate Diploma of Teacher Librarianship from Edith Cowan University, Perth.
She has been practicing art for the past twenty years. She has been exhibiting yearly with the Visionaries, a group of fine artists whose work incorporates the spiritual aspect in all of life.
Her work focusses mainly on the environment. This body of work is about the landscape and its brilliance, especially within the Australian landscape.
She is married with two adult children, Melissa, a Social Worker and Michelle, a Physiothe
