I make my art from a unique vantage point, I’m profoundly colour
blind. You see brown, I see red, you see blue, I see
grey. My work can largely be a pallet of happy accidents, I spent
twenty years teaching art to people with visual
impairment so I have learned to adapt to my vision, though I do tend
to ask people what colour I’m using . I paint with
acrylics as these paints offer brighter colours that I can see. I
have been described as a pop surrealist in my style of work
and my favourite subjects are subcultures within our society, people
who like to be different, in a way that is how I like to
see my work, something different. My work has been exhibited in the
UK and America and
I was shortlisted for The British Art 2023 awards.
This portfolio is an example of some of my work, I work with Acrylics on canvas, I like to paint subcultures in our society or my own interprtation
of a classic story, I like my subjects to be different from the normal, and in a way thats how I like people to see my work, something different. “The Cheshire Cat (Malice through the Looking Glass)”
This painting is my own interpritation of the Classic Alice in Wonderland story, The series is called Malice Through the looking Glass,
This painting is the Cheshire cat, one of the characters from the story, I have tried to create a darker sense to the story as I believe that
most modern illistrations are more child like and I feel my characters represent a darker side to what I feel is quite a dark story.
This painting is diving into the different subcultures in society, the gothic girl, normaly dressed in black, this is my interpretation using colour rather
than just presenting her as a dark person as she would expect to see herself.
Im So Pretty is again diving into a subculture in society, this time the Punk Movement , the title coming from a punk rock song,
I have used a palette knife to create a free and wild look to her hair.
“Rosie and the River of Blood”
Rosie and the River of Blood is a sort of amusing take on how perhaps I might see our world in the future,
definetly dark, I felt it was my vision of what is to come given the threat that we now live in , who Knows?
Girl with a Heart shaped ring is my take on what I feel is a little bit of abstract from my usaul work.
a little loose and less care have created this piece and in a strange way it is one of my favorite paintings to date..
