Stanislav Belyaevsky, born 1973 in Sankt Petersburg, Russia, received his ballet education at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Sankt Petersburg where he also completed his pedagogical training (bachelor's degree).
In 1991 he had his first engagement as a dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet Company in Sankt Petersburg, Russia. From 1995 to 1997 Stanislav Belyaevsky was a Principal Dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre. From 1997 to 2000 he was a Soloist at the Staatsoper in Berlin. From 2000 to 2012 Stanislav Belyaevsky was Principal Dancer at the Finnish National Ballet in Helsinki, Finland. From 2007 he also worked as a teacher with Finnish National Ballet School and Helsinki Dance Institute.

Biography

Stanislav Belyaevsky was born St. Petersburg, Russia in 1973. At the tender age of ten he was admitted to the famed Vaganova Academy. He studied intensively for nine years with the renowned ballet-master Vladilen Semenov. Under his tutelage Stanislav made his debut as the Youth in ‘”Chopiniana” and Albrecht in “Giselle” while at the Vaganova Academy. In 1988 Mr. Belyaevsky was chosen to dance in the 250th anniversary of the Vaganova School celebrating the unparalleled ballet training. The following year he represented the Vaganova Academy in its international tour to the USA, France, Germany, Holland, Iceland, and Israel.
Upon graduating in 1991, he joined the ranks of the world-renowned Kirov Ballet (Mariinsky Theatre) as a company member, following in the footsteps of such other dancers as Vaslav Nijinsky, Rudolf Nureyev, and Mikhail Baryshnikov. In his first season with the Kirov Ballet he danced the lead of Albrecht in “Giselle”. His nobility and elegance in the role made an indelible impression on audiences. This led him to perform all the major male roles in the company’s classical repertoire, including Prince Siegfried in “Swan Lake,” Prince Desire in “Sleeping Beauty,” the Prince in “Nutcracker,” the Youth in “Chopiniana,” the Spectre in “Le Spectre de al Rose,” Vaslav in “The Fountain of Bakhchisarai” and Colas in “Le Fille Ma Gardee.” Stanislav danced in Balanchine’s “Symphony in C” and in Boris Eifman’s “Cognition” to the music of Albinioni. He partnered many of the world’s most renowned ballerinas, including Altynai Asylmuratova, Zhanna Ayupova,Yulia Makhalina, and Ulyana Lopatkina.
As Principal Dancer with the Kirov Ballet, Mr. Balyaevsky always sought to develop and hone his creativity to its utmost potential. His collaboration with Oleg Vinogradov played a pivotal role in his creative development. In 1994 Mr. Vinogradov cast Mr. Belyaevsky as the male lead in the premiere of his new “Cinderella,” partnering with the charming Zhanna Ayupova. He went on to dance many other signature roles choreographed by Mr. Vinogradov and has appeared in films about Kschessinskaya and about the ballet “Cinderella.”
As a member of the Mariinsky Theatre Mr. Balyaevsky toured internationally including Europe as well as the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and other countries.
In 1997 Mr. Belyaevsky was asked to join the German State Opera in Berlin. There he flourished working with such acclaimed ballet-masters as Patrice Bart of the Paris Opera Ballet. David Saterland cast him as the young King Heinrich in his ballet “The History of Pygmalion and Don Juan”. During his time there Mr. Belyaevsky was able to broaden his artistic horizons by performing many contemporary works. For three seasons in Staatsoper Mr. Belyaevsky worked with the renowned dancer and great teacher Oliver Matz.
In 2000, Mr. Belyaevsky was invited by Jorma Uotinen to join the Finnish National Opera as a principal dancer. Mr. Belyaevsky found he theater’s repertory enticing. While there he was able to expand his roster of leading roles to include dancing Lensky in “Onegin” by J.Cranko, Oberon in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Shperly, Albrecht in Sylvie Guillem’s “Giselle,” Prince Desire in Rudolph Nureyev’s “Sleeping Beauty,” George Balanchine’s “Violin Concerto” and “Serenade,” Basil in “Don Quixote,” and the Prince in Ben Stevenson’s “Cinderella.” In 2002 he was invited to dance the role of Siegfried in South Korea in Universal Ballet Company’s production of “Swan Lake.” After an impressive performance, he went on to dance Romeo in the world premiere of Oleg Vinogradov’s “Romeo and Juliet” later in 2002. Later that same year he attended the 1st Prague International Ballet Competition as a non-competing partner. At the event he debuted his own contemporary choreography, “Tango de Roxanne,” which enjoyed critical success. His partner in the competition, Seh Yun Kim, principal dancer with Universal Ballet, was awarded the Silver Prize.
In his third season with the Finnish National Ballet (2002-2003), Mr. Belyaevsky performed in Ben Stevenson’s “Cinderella,” Wayne Eagling’s “Nutcracker,” and Sylvia Guillem’s “Giselle.” He had the privilege of performing in “Raymonda”, a new piece choreographed by Anna-Marie Holmes and Kevin McKenzie for the Finnish National Ballet. It was a unique collaboration with the American Ballet Theatre that premiered a year later in New York with ABT.
Mr. Belyaevsky has also appeared as guest artist with the Korean National Ballet and the International Ballet Star’s Gala in Seoul, Korea. His creativity won him the award “ProDance”. He performed in “Giselle” for Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah, a modern staging of the ballet by Jonas Kage. The role allowed Mr. Belyaevsky to expand the traditional role of Albrecht that he had grown up with into a 21st century incarnation.
Highlighting Mr. Belyaevsky’s fourth season with the Finnish National Ballet (2003-2004) was performing beautiful and fiendishly difficult pas de deux and male variations by Anna Laerkesen to the music of Chopin. During the same season Mr. Belyaevsky worked with the renowned choreographer Rudi van Dantzi in his redacted version of “Swan Lake.” Mr. Belyaevsky appeared in International Ballet Stars Gala in Seoul, South Korea.
During the 2004-2005 season Mr. Belyaevsky danced the lead role in Patrice Bart’s new ballet “Tschaikovsky”. He he danced “Tarantella” at the Balanchine International Gala in Helsinki celebrating George Balanchine’s 100th birthday.
2005-2006 led to more opportunities for Mr. Belyaevsky. He explored new styles dancing the lead in August Bouronville’s “Napoli” and a contemporary duet in Jiri Kylian’s “Petit Mort.” Stanislav performed the role of the Prince in Ben Stevenson’s “Cinderella” with the Finnish National Ballet in Sardinia, Italy.
The 2006-2007 season was artistically and professionally fulfilling for Mr. Belyaevsky. He danced the role of Trigorin in John Neumeier’s “The Seagull” and that of Vronski in Alexei Ratmansky’s “Anna Karenina.” He found it particularly thrilling to develop and dance characters taken from the great Russian novelists Anton Chekhov and Leo Tolstoy. Mr. Belyaevsky performed in International Ballet Stars Gala in Shanghai, China.
Mr. Belyaevsky continued to expand his dance horizons the following season (2007-2008) by dancing the prodigal son role in George Balanchine’s ballet “Prodigal Son” as well as a very challenging solo in Harold Lander’s “Etudes.” He counts himself fortunate to have performed in other notable works such as “Four Hands” by Laszlo Berdo, George Balanchine’s “Divertimento 15,” “A Million Kisses to My Skin” by David Dawson as well as a newly redacted version of “Sleeping Beauty.” Mr. Belyaevsky performed in Russian Ballet Stars Gala from around the world in Sankt Petersburg, Russia.
Mr. Belyaevsky continues to grow as an artist. He recently danced the role of Von Rothbart in Kenneth Greve’s staging of “Swan Lake” as well as many roles in Kenneth Greve’s “Scheherazade” (Slave, Sinbad, Aladdin, and Lead Soldier). He also danced the role of Tybalt in John Cranko’s “Romeo and Julia”.
While performing Mr. Belyaevsky has also honed her craft as a teacher and coach, having joined the pedagogical faculty of the Vaganova Ballet Academy in September of 2009 and receiving his diploma as ballet teacher, ballet tutor, and theatre repertoire coach in 2012. In 2007 he also began teaching and coaching in the Finnish National Ballet School and 2009 at the Helsinki Dance Institute.
Mr. Belyaevsky works with students at the Finnish National Ballet and actively participates in ballet workshops, international competitions, ballet seminars and enjoys guest teaching and conducting master classes.
Mr. Belyaevsky brings formidable technique and physical prowess to the stage thrilling audiences with his artistry and noble characterizations. His creativity continues to bring him new challenges and opportunities, rising to the occasion with enthusiasm and superlative skills learned while studying at the Vaganova Academy.
