Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1935, Kakigi is a calligrapher who specializes in calligraphy which uses kana (the Japanese syllabary, as opposed to borrowed Chinese characters) to convey the gentleness of the human heart. Starting with the calligraphic styles and techniques she learned from Sasafune Kuwada and Sanshu Kuwada, Kakigi teaches her own disciples calligraphy as a means for conveying emotions and the conditions of the heart.
