Born in Hokkaido Prefecture in 1968, Furuya is a younger artist who creates traditional nihon-ga Japanese paintings using natural mineral pigments. She often paints landscapes with a free and uncontrolled will. Furuya's sentimental and soothing paintings have been said to make the viewer wish to visit the locations depicted.
