Gordon Manson knew while growing up in Manitoba that he was destined to be an artist. From an early age he expressed his love of nature and wildlife through the use of oils, pen and ink and graphite. Dog sled racing on the international mid-west circuit proved to be further subject matter for his artistic fire. Studies at the University of Manitoba, where he switched to acrylic on canvas, honed the skills needed to express his energy and enthusiasm for outdoor life. A series of exhibitions and awards in British Columbia’s lower mainland led him to his first one-man show, “Canadian Landscapes” in Maple Ridge in 1993. Following award-winning projects in animation, cinematography and graphic arts with Sesame Street, Manitoba Tourism and the National Film Board, among others, his thirst for new methods of expression sent him in ever-expanding artistic directions, including creating original leather apparel and accessories and jewelry making. Gordon now calls British Columbia home. There he trains his horses and continues to paint what he loves. In 2009 he had a solo show at the Wilson House Gallery in Kamloops. In 2010, his drawing ‘Leading the Way’, was chosen first runner up at the Art of the West Show and Sale in conjunction with The Kamloops Cowboy Festival. Through 2011 and 12 Gordon showed artwork in juried shows around the Kamloops area and beyond. In 2013, Gordon had 2 drawings and a painting accepted into the Western Art Gallery at the Calgary Stampede. In October he had a drawing and 2 paintings accepted into the Western Trappings and Art Show in Llano Texas. 2014 saw Gordon take First in the Pencil/Charcoal category at the Western States Horse Expo Art show and sale, in Sacramento, California. He has art work in collections across Canada, the United States, England and Australia. Gordon continues to draw and paint the world around him and looks for opportunities to experience the cowboy life.
