Kayla is a surrealist artist who examines liminal spaces as places of destination instead of transference. Kayla aims to create art where the viewer can find comfort in the uncomfortable and peace in isolation. Her paintings are both inviting to look at and yet hard to accept.
This collection of work examines liminal spaces as destinations. It aims to create a sense of unease, and yet, at the same time a sense of comfort.
Liminal spaces are often seen as a transformative place that exists between psychological states. Kayla enjoys the nostalgic feelings they bring but challenges the notion of them being transitionary. Though they are meant to be passed through, Kayla questions what happens if we stay in a liminal space and embrace the disconnection from reality.
