Miranda took up art after an academic career as a research scientist in biochemistry and continues painting whilst lecturing in biology and forensic science. John Gilbert, a multi award winning artist, is Miranda’s inspirational mentor and with his incredible experience and knowledge, has opened up the world of art and art history. She has found great fulfilment in her work and takes particular satisfaction in expressing emotions through abstract images - emotional expression achieved both in actually creating the painting and then in appreciating it.

Miranda sees no contradiction in her academic training as a scientist and in her painting of abstract images- both are creative processes aimed at understanding and expressing the world.
