Karina Laru-Naú (née Szafran) was born in Wroclaw/
Poland. Growing up in the suburbs of a big city, she
learned to integrate the assorted cultural influences of her
ancestors within the small family sphere and then moved
on to gradually become an open-minded citizen of the
world. At the age of 18, after graduating high school, she
left Poland to begin Slavic studies in Salzburg.
She has lived in Austria (Salzburg/Vienna/Carinthia) since
1981, where beside variously earning a living, including as
interpreter for Russian, Polish and German, she has been
immersed in diverse art trainings in Austria, Germany and
Italy. Numerous travels, not only throughout Europe, but
also in North and South America, as well as Asia, form a
grand inspiration for her art.
Her studies at the „Freie Akademie der Kunst und
Philosophie“ in Klagenfurt/Carinthia have enriched her
artistic path and confirmed the validity of her choice to be
a freelance artist.
Caught in time and space, mortality and memory – the
human being is her focus. The human being, in all the
myriad thoughts and deeds, within the stillness and the
loudness of this world.
”The works of the artist Karina Laru Naú draw us
into the world of the human psyche.
This is what drives her search for creative
expression on the subject of being human and
what that means.“
Dr. Ingrid Gardill, art historian, from her book:
”Internationale Kunst heute 2017“
When you look at Karina Laru Naú´s pictures, there
is an immediate sense of depths. You are drawn
into a different world, into the infinitely great and
inexhaustible kingdom of the Unconscious, the realm
of the soul, which is also home to the anima and
animus – in Karina L.N.ʼs work the female and male
principle of Being, Feeling and Sensing in all human
beings.
It instantly becomes clear that the thin surface of
the canvas or paper, as the supporting medium for
paint or pencil, is no longer a surface at all. Quite
the contrary. It is just the uppermost of innumerable
layers not easily grasped, which lead into the depths.
Behind the luminous, harmonising world of colours,
something unexplainable… intangible lies hidden
in lightnesses and darknesses. As you open yourself
to Karina L.N.ʼs art, it activates your own imagination
and interpretation.
At the center of her art is the human being, with all
his/her imperfections, the vulnerabilities of body and
spirit…the soul expressed through mortality.
