I live on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. I have been traveling a lot the past few years and loved all the new places and people I’ve been able to experience. But with advent of Covid 19 this year, it’s time to stay home and love where I am. It’s beautiful here; rural, lots of water and sky, marshes and wildlife. It’s quiet. It’s timeless. But it’s not isolated from the rest of our country or the rest of our world. The loss of life and health from Covid and the pain of black people being victimized over and over is here as well. I am glad that I have the opportunity to be part of the Artists for Justice, portraits of Black Lives Lost Show in Easton Maryland. My contribution is a portrait of Breonna Taylor, a beautiful young woman who lost her life in March as a result of an unfounded police raid on her apartment. It was a sad labor of love to do that painting and to do my still life, Requiem, inspired by the mounting deaths from Covid 19. So I stay home and paint.
