Regarding his pictorial production, Lucien Bieler was influenced by many great artists of the 20th century like Degas, Monet, Manet, Daumier, Renoir, Valadon, Cézanne, Matisse, Bonnard, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Pissaro, Modigliani, Picasso or Toulouse-Lautrec. He admired Toulouse-Lautrec's work but also his modest signature, from which he drew inspiration for his own. It is only after many years of painting that Lucien Bieler eventually accepted to sign his work, mainly because his wife insisted upon it. For him, a work of art had to be selfsufficient, regardless of its creator
