This collection of works was created to remind us—if ever the need arose—that the styles of figurative painting, symbolism, and even abstract art, as the author points out, were conceived by primitive humans in the caves of prehistory, albeit in their embryonic form. Some colored geometric shapes found in cave paintings, symbols studied and classified by Professor André Leroi-Gourhan, are revisited, transfigured, idealized, dreamed, and reinvented in the works of Andrea Benetti. Through these pieces, the artist pays a fitting tribute to the true origins of abstract art and its original creators. This collection consists of bas-reliefs made with gesso on canvas, which are then antiqued using natural substances such as cocoa, turmeric, henna, red sorrel, and coffee. Finally, selected parts of the works are painted with oil paints.
