When I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1980 I was devoted to the abstract expressionist genre of painting. I created energetic color field paintings executed with a highly articulated and psychological use of color. Since 1995, after an intense investigation of African American artists, I have intentionally created Neo-African American art. I create paintings that visually articulate the African American way of life. My art expresses the religious, political and social manners and customs of African American culture. The content and subject matter also address the issues surrounding the validity of African American visual art as a genre while striving to contribute to the tradition of African Americans as visual artists
