3D X 2: A COLLABORATION AMONG SCULPTORS

posted by San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

The Central Coast Sculptors' Group is mounting a collaborative exhibit in the McMeen Gallery of the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. 3D x 2, November 2 – December 2, 2012, features collaborative sculptural artwork from pairs of local artists. Each artist was asked to begin an art piece but had to leave it unfinished. The first artist then handed the incomplete sculpture to his or her partner artist who completed the work in whatever medium he or she chose. Showcasing a variety of styles, techniques and media, the sculptures were surprising to all the participating artists. The result is a delightful blend of creativity that no one fully anticipated.

TERRY DELAPP: MUNDUS CERIALIS

posted by San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

Harkening back to the supremacy and pictorial excellence of the nineteenth century landscape painters Cole, Church, Bierstadt and Moran, Terry DeLapp shares their passion for portraying the true majesty of the natural world. Mr. DeLapp frames the world with a gentle persuasion, and it is in his subtlety that he coaxes us into submitting to its charms. He does this with excellence in his newest body of artwork, the exhibit MUNDUS CERIALIS at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, November 2 – December 3, 2012. A gallery talk (5 pm) and reception to meet the artist (6 – 9 pm) will take place on Friday, November 2, 2012. 1010 Broad St. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. Phone: 805.543.8562. www.sloma.org

NORMAN E. RILEY: PHOTO SURREALISM

posted by San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

Photographs by Norman E. Riley. Mr. Riley has recently made a generous donation of his photographs to the Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection. Most of the photographs have the same background and are simple subjects comprised of few elements. Nearly all combine pieces of scrap metal with something living or objects that were once living. He has carefully selected and arranged the components in ways that are striking and harmonious creating surrealistic images that are incongruent juxtapositions. Mr. Riley shares, “It is my hope that these artful photographs will showcase a suitable command of the photographic medium from which they arise, namely photography, as distinguished from all forms of digital imaging.” October 12 – November 11, 2012. 1010 Broad St. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Phone: 805.543.8562. Hours: 11am - 5pm. www.sloma.org
